Many builders think “termite damage” is a license to print money and in their defense they’re throwing the highest number at it because of the unknown and unexpected damage.
Burton and Burton Builders works on a different premise. Steve would rather quote you for the actual damage by doing investigative work prior.
One of his Clients, Pam was quoted $8000 for a job Steve did for $800.
Steve will always be fair and informative. You will not pay for “suspected damage” but only for the real damage.
About Termites
Termites can attack at any time. Constant checking and good maintenance contract with a pest controller is your best defense. Termites are not predictable so sometimes you’re lead to believe the damage is more severe that what it actually is or the reverse may be true. The only sure way to tell is by an investigation process. Sometimes the extent of the damage is not visible until repairs begin. This is because of the erratic behaviour of the termites. Certain areas can be used to make their tunnels but then they may eat the wood beyond that. Your wall structures are like a smorgasbord for the termites and they are picky with what they eat!
The most important thing to do when you discover or think you have a termite problem is to get in contact with a pest controller (a reputable one) to come and bait the termites so that it kills the existing termites and hopefully their nest. Do not bang the wall/window sill etc. that only chases them away to another area and makes it hard to treat them.
So how can you detect them? If they’re in your walls unless you have sophisticated equipment it would be impossible for the homeowner to see. Qualified pest controllers with the right equipment can do that. However as a homeowner if you’re cleaning window ledges, wooden architraves or door reveals and they feel squishy you either have wood rot or termites get it checked as soon as possible.

Do the termites need to be treated prior to inspection?
Definitely and disruption will cause termites to disappear and start action elsewhere.
If you suspect termite damage call us we’ll recommend expert Pest Control to find and eradicate the existing critters and hopefully the nest.
Once the treatment has been done and termites killed we can come in and assess the damage.
Will all my walls /ceilings need replacing?
Only the ones that are damaged. Your house will be restored to Qld Building Safety Standards so you can rest assured you will be safe.
How do I know you will only charge me for the work done?
Steve gives you a detailed quote on what his work is covering if he finds any further damage he will show you and quote you for the added work. Steve hates seeing clients get ripped off so you can be assured you will get a fair deal.
Can the termites return?
Yes if there is more than one nest it’s possible. However Steve will again put you in contact with a great pest controller who can talk to you about preventative maintenance on your property.
